The Gym

The Gym is a leading UK fitness chain with a focus on affordable, 24/7 access. I was brought in to redesign their mobile app experience, with a particular focus on the onboarding and brand direction for a new digital member journey. The goal was to simplify registration, reduce friction, and create a more welcoming, energetic first impression. The final design aligned with The Gym’s evolving brand and supported better member conversion, engagement, and retention through thoughtful UX.

Product Designer – Fitness App Onboarding Redesign

Modernising The Gym’s mobile experience for new members


The Gym Group is one of the UK’s leading low-cost fitness chains, known for 24/7 access and flexible memberships. I was tasked to redesign the mobile onboarding experience as part of a broader brand and app refresh. The goal was to create a cleaner, faster, and more engaging entry point for new members while reinforcing The Gym’s bold, inclusive brand identity.

My Role


  • Redesigned the full onboarding flow—from account creation to membership setup

  • Applied user research and feedback to simplify key steps and reduce drop-off

  • Updated the app’s visual language to reflect The Gym’s refreshed brand positioning
